Pressure vessels shall be tested for air tightness according to the following requirements:
(1) Air tightness test should be carried out after passing the hydraulic test. For pressure vessels whose design requires a air pressure test, the air tightness test may be carried out simultaneously with the air pressure test, and the test pressure shall be the pressure of the air pressure test
(2) For pressure vessels made of carbon steel and low alloy steel, the temperature of the test gas shall not be lower than 5℃, pressure vessels made of other materials shall be as per design drawing
(3) During the test, the pressure should rise slowly. After reaching the specified test pressure, the pressure should be kept for 10 minutes. Then, the pressure should be reduced to the design pressure, all welds and joints shall be inspected with soap and water, and no leakage shall be considered as qualified. If there is a leak, carry out hydraulic test and air tightness test again after repairing
Air tightness test is different from air pressure test. First of all, they have different goals. Air tightness test is to test the tightness of pressure vessel, while air pressure test is to test the pressure vessel's compressive strength. Secondly, the test pressure is different, the pressure of air tightness test is the design pressure of the container, and the pressure of air pressure test is 1.15 times of the design pressure.
